| Jamie Oliver is a man on a mission with a strong purpose in life. Driven by his love of good food and a passion to help others Jamie has spent a large part of his life showing non-cooks how to make healthy nutritious meals using simple ingredients.
Jamie Oliver began his love of cooking at a young age when he spent many hours helping out in the kitchen of his parent’s restaurant in Essex. His fascination for food continued to grow and at the age of 16 Jamie left school to complete his training at Westminster Catering College.
His early working years were spent initially in France, followed by Antonio Carluccio's Neal Street Restaurant in London and then three and a half years at the acclaimed River Café.
His 2010 book, Jamie's 30 Minute Meals, became Jamie's first million-selling book in the UK as well as being the fastest-selling non-fiction book since records began and he is the second highest selling author only beaten by J K Rowling.
His love of food and his understanding of nutrition is a blessing he has carried through to his adult life and Jamie soon discovered that children and young adults are not being taught by their parents how to put together healthy foods to maintain a healthy diet because many parents
were never taught how to do this themselves.
Jamie advises us to go back to the way our grand parents ate, before the arrival of the fast food chains,
pre-packed meals from the supermarket and processed school
dinners.
According to Jamie, our grand parents had it right. With no access to unhealthy overly processed food they had no option but to cook fresh produce and healthy meals.
If we go back in time to sixty years ago, when our grand parents were young, food was in short supply in the UK and malnutrition rates were high.
To resolve this problem the government set up The Ministry of Food to teach the general public how to make the best use of the basic food available to them.
Now, sixty years later when we have unlimited choices and plenty of food, we're living in a world of junk food, additives and preservatives. The war is no longer against wide spread malnutrition but against
world-wide obesity, because most people have little or no idea about how to cook or what amounts to a balanced diet.
Jamie Oliver says we need to look back at the way our grandmothers and great-grandmothers cooked with wholesome, tasty food that was simple and quick to prepare.
Whether you're a complete beginner in the kitchen or simply stuck in a rut, Jamie Oliver promises to show you how to make
healthy nutritious dinners within hours of reading any of his books.
