Conditioning Hair Treatment

Regular conditioning is a necessary protective measure for all hair types. It is absolutely essential for hair that shows any signs of dryness, dullness or breakage. It is needed to counteract the alteration made by treatments such as tinting, dyeing, perming, straightening and bleaching.
The purpose of conditioning is to restore your hair to its natural condition, to make it manageable, to prevent breakage, to reduce split ends and to smooth out any rough straw-like texture.

There are two types of conditioner available – instant and deep. Instant conditioners are usually enriched liquids (more likely than not containing protein) that are combed through freshly washed hair. This softens, adds resilience and bounce. Some have to be lightly rinsed away whilst others stay on to help with styling.
Deep conditioning involves products or home treatments rich in creams and oils. They are massaged into the hair and left on for anything from 10 to 30 minutes in order to allow the rich ingredients to penetrate into the hair shaft.
Deep conditioning is extremely valuable for dry hair and hair that has been abused or damaged. They are sometimes applied before shampooing and sometimes afterwards – read the instructions carefully.
If your hair is in very bad condition, a weekly deep conditioning is recommended until there are obvious signs of improvement. Usually a deep conditioning treatment every three weeks is adequate to preserve and maintain healthy hair.
Deep conditioning treatments can be made from household ingredients:
Hot Oil Conditioning Hair Treatment
Warm 2 tablespoons of olive oil, gently massage into every part of the scalp. Wring out a towel in hot water and wind it turban style around your head. As it cools, repeat the process 2 or 3 times to ensure total saturation. Afterwards shampoo your hair and rinse thoroughly. This treatment is good for brittle hair.
Castor Oil Conditioning Hair Treatment
Warm ½ a cup of castor oil, massage into your scalp and gently comb it through your hair; wind a steaming hot towel around your head; wait 30 minutes before shampooing. This treatment is good for fragile hair.
Olive Oil and Honey Conditioning Hair Treatment
Stir together ½ a cup of green olive oil and 1 cup of liquid honey; shake vigorously; allow the mixture to steep for a day or two. Massage into your scalp, comb through, but don’t let the teeth scrape your scalp. Cover your hair with a plastic bag, make airtight to permit the heat of the head to aid penetration. Leave on for 30 minutes. Then shampoo and rinse as usual. This treatment keeps dark hair shining and lustrous.
Protein Conditioning Hair Treatment
Beat 2 eggs, continue beating and slowly add 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of glycerine and 1 teaspoon of cider vinegar. Apply this mixture after the initial shampoo and rinse; leave on for 15 – 30 minutes. Rinse well. This treatment is a restorer for all types of hair.
