Aging Skin Care

Aging skin care is important because as skin ages it becomes thinner and more fragile, skin care now needs to be more intense.

Luckily for us, our bodies are capable of regenerating. So, as skin cells age and die off, they are constantly being replaced by new ones.

It takes approximately three weeks for new skin cells to reach the surface of our skin and with help from aging skin care it is possible to produce better quality cells.

Aging skin care should utilize this natural process making it is possible to slow down and even reverse the signs of aging in the skin.

Gently exfoliating aging skin will help this process along because as skin grows older the older skin cells do not drop off as readily. If the old skin cells remain on the outer layer of your skin they will cause your skin to have a dull or grey appearance.

This will also cause moisturizers to sit on the top of your skin instead of being absorbed to where they are needed the most. If this happens your skin will then begin to look dry and under nourished.

Cleansing is an important part of aging skin care and natural cleansers are best for their hydrating properties.

Choose a cleanser that is gentle and effective and contains no sulfates. A natural cleanser with herb extracts and oils will sooth and hydrate at the same time.

Rose Hip oil is excellent for aging skin care because it is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. It has natural anti-oxidant properties and is slightly astringent.

Rosehip oil aids in the regeneration of new skin cells which is a vital component of aging skin care. It has been known to help improve skin elasticity and regenerate skin cells. Through this action, it slows down premature aging and helps reduce the formation of wrinkles and reduces scarring.

To keep it healthy and supple skin needs oils, so aging skin care begins with incorporating natural oils into your diet. The best and easiest way to do this is to eat oily fish which is extremely high in the omega 3 fatty acids.

Omega 3 fatty acids also help to slow down premature aging and reduce the formation of wrinkles and scarring. Start eating salmon, pilchards and sardines two or three times a week and I have found if you eat oily fish for three days running, on the third day your skin will have a wonderful glow with an even tone.

Vitamin C is also an important element of aging skin care because Vitamin C is needed for the production of collagen, the fibers that plump up our skin and give it its youthful glow.

Taking vitamin C supplements are helpful but you need to take them in large doses because supplements are synthetic vitamins and they do not contain the same level of phytochemicals.

Phytochemicals are produced naturally in plants to protect them from the environment and they aid with absorption and use of the vitamins.

Taking a 500mg Vitamin C tablet as a supplement in the case of aging skin care will have less effect than eating an orange. An orange only contains 50 mg of Vitamin C, but, because the orange also contains the necessary phytochemicals you need to help you absorb the vitamin C, the orange delivers both the vitamin C and the means to absorb it.

This is why eating fruit and vegetables is so important, especially for people striving for aging skin care; it’s not just for the vitamins.

Aging skin care needs to deliver the best quality vitamins and minerals in the most effective way to improve the quality of the new skin cells as they are produced.

Decreased appetite as we age makes aging skin care more difficult and it’s all the more important to know which foods are critical for improving the condition of your skin.

Here is a list of beneficial foods when it comes to aging skin care:

alfalfa, apple cider vinegar, beets, blueberries, broccoli, brown rice, carrots, chamomile, citrus fruits, cranberries, echinacea, evening primrose oil, fish, fish oils, ginkgo, ginseng, garlic, green tea, horsetail, milk thistle, mushrooms, nuts, oatmeal, onions, olive oil, peanuts, peppermint, pomegranates, pumpkins, rosemary, sage, thyme, tomatoes, turmeric, willow, wheat bran, and wheat germ.

Now is the time to cut out all empty food from your diet and concentrate on feeding your skin and keeping to a definite aging skin care routine.
